make a wish

An intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong that requires a high level of craftsmanship, flower plaques are set up to celebrate festive occasions, such as Chinese New Year and temple festivals. While it is less commonly seen nowadays, Master Wong will teach you how to make a miniature. You can put down your wish and keep it with you, or give it to your dear ones with your most sincere blessing.

Wong Lai-chung

Wong Lai-chung is a veteran paper artisan. He inherited his father’s business and continued to run Xinzhong Flower Shop until its neighbourhood was due to redevelop.

Although the industry has been waning, he was previously invited to the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity and Woofer Ten as the artist-in-residency to breathe life into the flower plaque and paper craft. He believes the craft is not necessarily “old” or “conservative” but a kind of arts.
